The Barn at Chorley Farmhouse

West Wycombe | Buckinghamshire

The Barn at Chorley Farmhouse is a previously converted Grade II listed property in the Green Belt and Chilterns AONB. The brief to create living accommodation ancillary to the main dwelling was achieved through the installation of a self-supported mezzanine structure, constructed using locally sourced oak. The high-quality material palette served to enhance the existing building, providing a complementary addition to the exposed timber trusses.

Damson Cottage

Speen | Buckinghamshire

Damson Cottage is a new detached house for a private client located in Speen, a village within the Green Belt.  The client owned a large 1970’s house with a large garden, and wished to downsize to a smaller, new house within the same plot.  The new house is designed to suit the local Chilterns vernacular and built from facing brickwork and clay tiles.  External areas are planned to suit the client’s love of gardening and make the most of views from the house.

Holly Bank

Radnage | Buckinghamshire

A modern two-storey extension within the Chilterns AONB and restricted by permissible volume increases of the Green Belt. The new addition was designed to respond to the existing terrain of the site and capture views to the east over Chawley Wood. Internal alterations to the existing bungalow improved bedrooms and circulation spaces, with a large open-plan kitchen and dining space separated by a level change to the new extension. The insertion of photovoltaic panels and smart systems provide a source of renewable energy.

Farnham Road

Slough | Buckinghamshire

Working closely with the developer, the former office building in Slough was converted and extended to provide 21 apartments over three floors, whilst retaining the accommodation at ground floor for commercial occupiers. The new third floor extension allowed for additional residential units, with balconies to the rear to provide amenity for residents. Vertical zinc cladding and buff coloured brickwork was used to construct the newly built elements whilst also being used to revitalise the existing elevations.

Chapel Street & Town Lane

Marlow | Buckinghamshire

Brocklehurst Architects worked closely with the Local Planning Authority and the Conservation Officer to achieve a coherent urban scheme on the important Chapel Street gateway site in the Marlow Conservation Area. The redevelopment included an elegant townhouse reflecting the original retail use, by including a shopfront feature to the ground floor corner kitchen.

The development of six terraced houses at Town Lane created a new street and pedestrian route through to the centre of town.

Farm Close Lane

Wheatley | Oxfordshire

The conversion of the stables and tack room in the heart of the Wheatley Conservation area and within the grounds of a listed farmhouse now provides a self-contained residential annexe. The existing stonework was repaired and all the existing door and window openings reused. The use of a restrained palette of materials – stone, oak, simple fenestration and plain clay tiles creates a peaceful oasis in the garden of the existing house.

The Studio

Ardtornish | Sound of Mull

The Studio overlooks the Sound of Mull and Ardtornish Castle. The building is a live/work unit built on the site of a former house. The building and grounds have a minimal impact on their surroundings and the wider landscape, but have been designed to recreate a sense of place on a site which has had a history of human habitation for many centuries.

Pyecroft

Speen | Buckinghamshire

Pyecroft is a contemporary house in the Chilterns that replaced a rambling bungalow. The design paid particular attention to the steeply sloping site. Although the new house is relatively large in relation to its more traditional neighbours, the impact is reduced by its clean lines, shallow pitched roof and horizontal emphasis. The house was built by WeberHaus using their modular off-site construction system.

Haddenham Low Farm

Haddenham | Buckinghamshire

A new contemporary family home beside a lake. The new house has extensive views of the surrounding countryside and is designed to link visually with the lake. A new boat house/home office has also been constructed on the lakeside. The orientation of the building maximises passive solar gain when required and passive ventilation.
