Brocklehurst Architects has extensive knowledge and wide experience in all aspects of the built environment. We work with a broad range of clients, whether individual, corporate or institutional. The scale of our projects range from small domestic extensions and houses for private clients to large commercial, education, leisure and residential schemes in both the public and private sectors. In addition to building design, expertise within the firm includes interior design, exhibition design, party wall surveying and planning consultancy.
Maria Lawton
Finance Manager
Maria plays a key role in overseeing the financial aspects of Brocklehurst Architects. Her responsibilities include budgeting, financial planning, and ensuring the efficient allocation of resources for various projects. Maria’s attention to detail and analytical skills make her a pivotal member of the team, ensuring that the financial operations of Brocklehurst Architects are not only well-managed but also aligned with the practice's broader goals and objectives.
Elliott Vialls
Associate
Elliott first joined Brocklehurst Architects in 2012 and rejoined the practice after completing his studies at Portsmouth University and time working as an architect in practice in both Hampshire and Oxfordshire. Elliott has since worked on mixed use housing projects, projects within medical sectors such as dentistry and pharmaceuticals, as well as residential projects of varying size. Elliott’s keen eye for detail and enthusiasm for sustainability, allows him to approach every project from a valuable perspective. Being an advocate for 3D modelling and BIM within the practice, Elliott has helped realise the full potential of our clients’ projects from feasibility studies through to construction.
Matthew Maier
Director
After joining the practice in 1984, Matthew became a partner and later director of the company in 1988. He has excellent all-round knowledge and experience of all aspects of the built environment and has a particular interest in making and craftmanship, whether this is contemporary detailing or sensitive interventions to Listed Buildings. He spends much of his working life advising on Town and Country Planning with respect to individual sites and buildings and is an effective strategist and negotiator on behalf of the firm’s clients. Matthew was, for ten years, a professional examiner at Oxford Brookes University and has helped many graduates become successful architects.
John Hancock
Director
John has been with Brocklehurst for over 30 years and a director for over 20. John led the design of the commercial headquarters for SAS Institute, as well as various projects in the hotel and leisure sector. He has steered the practice’s education projects involving expansions and improvements for many Buckinghamshire nurseries and schools. A more recent focus on commercial and residential buildings includes carefully planned development, often on town centre sites and in the context of heritage assets.

Maria Lawton
Practice Manager
Maria has been with Brocklehurst Architects since 2006 and although her primary role is to manage the company's finances, she has developed this into the wider context of general management to assist the Directors on a day-to-day basis. Couple this with a tenacious attention to detail and broad analytical skills, she is well placed to protect the company's commercial platform as well as enhance our clients' build experience.
