Brocklehurst Architects were commissioned to design a new house on a plot of land within Old Amersham, owned and maintained by the clients for some 40 years. The site adjoins the clients’ existing house, and lies within the Old Amersham Conservation Area.
Detailed Planning Approval and Conservation Area Consent was obtained despite the local Planning Authority’s initial strong opposition to the scheme. The narrow 6 meter building depth together with the 47.5 degree roof pitch and low eaves level are important contributions to an appropriate scale of development within the Conservation Area.
Great care was taken in the design of the house to ensure that the historic pattern of development along The Platt and the sense of open space were both maintained.
